The 520S was my first rig. The 530S was a fried mess that was headed to the dumpster. It was totally reworked board by board by N6WK. He even repainted the covers and found a mint front panel for it. I found the 820S on EBay cheap. It wasn't transmitting but was minty clean. It had a minor problem in the tube heater circuit. Easy fix and both the 520S and 820S were refurbished by hamrepair.com.
At least the driver and finals in all those members of the Kenwood family glow.
Well yes but they do that on plastic solid state radios too. LOL
Agreed butwhen talking about rigs glowing I personally discount meters etc and just go for the hollow state devices.
Love those Kenwoods! I have a TS-520 and TS-830S. You have some beauties!

I had a TS-830S for about 20 years and foolishly sold it. I had an SM-220 and VFO-230 to go with it at one time. I had a TS-820S for a short time. Then a few years ago I bought a clean TS-520SE off eBay. Since then I've gotten an MC-50 microphone for it (the third one I've owned), the DG-5 display, and an Autek audio filter. I think I'll keep the 'SE for a while.
