can't decide 857 or ic-7000
857 hi-Q ant and still have money left over

or the ic-7000 and wait for an ant. in few month

is the icom really that much better?

I have a friend @ work who has the Yaesu - he's not all that pleased with it. Several trips back and forth to their repair facility and his rig still has issues...RF feedback into the audio chain being one of them.

Go with the '7000. Haven't seen image/intermod specs for it yet, but be aware that its predecessor - the IC706 - was prone to desense from strong out-of-band signals.

HF/VHF/UHF MOBILE RIG

I would check out HRO or AES to see thier prices. We have 2 IC
7000s they are nice rigs,we had to adjust the audio pot for the modulation, the Yaesu rigs are nice to,its what ever you want them to do? Ive had the TS50, FT900,IC 706mkgii and all were fb rigs,73 GL

I have been watching ebay for the FT-857D, but so for, no deal.
Where is the best and or cheapest place to order a new one?

Gigaparts has them on sale till Sept. 30th for $679.00

www.gigaparts.com

I just checked Ebay. There is one for $750 that comes with some extras. and the other is bid at $565. I think the new one at Gigaparts would be the deal.

Hi..

For me it is no contest (a no brainer)
So the IC-7000 costs more..

But mine works great..
All i can say is it works Great..
and well..on SSB it is in a class of it's own..

Now there is a lot going on with the radio..
but if you perfer to set it and leave it...it still works Great..

one might make a comparison with a Kenwwod 2000
well i did say might...

is hard to out do a IC-7000 without speanding serious money..

so to take this long story back to a short story

Get the IC-7000 (have had mine a few monts now)
Spend the money...then save a bit for a good antennas

Everyong here knows Antennas are Extremly Importent
However...
a system is only as good as it's weakest link..

with my 706 MKIIG i easily talked further then my recieve
now though i hear far better (and still usally easily talk with anyone i hear)

Later

Sonwatcher, you said Gigaparts has them on sale till Sept. 30th for $679.00
I looked , and saw $844.00.
I would pay the 679... Should I just call them, or am I missing something on the webpage?

My take is that, if I had the 857, I would always wonder if the 7000 was better? If I had the 7000, I'd know I had the best.

But that gigiparts deal is dang good. I think I could live with it too!

What is the deal with the 706 MKIIG?

HRO had them locally for under $700 with MFG rebate!

Why din't I buy one?

I thinks theys gouging now.
