This has been bugging me all week, the platform is taking a long time to load. Usual clear of temp and cookies had no effect. It works at the moment, but I have been getting these..

Yes, I have a lot of tabs open and need to find my charger, but I don't believe that is the issue. Not sure if an admin is aware so there it is.

Just guessing, but most likely all the AI scrapers that are causing havoc.
The AI data lords need to be fed continously and the data slurping tends to be very aggressive. Plenty of those scrapers don't follow best practices where you tell them to not scrape your website.

Nowadays 95% of all website traffic is AI scrapers, probably more than that.

Its almost like my browser has to wait in line before a connection is granted. Like a DDoS or a brute force on something tying up the server. IDK. When it does load, it loads fast like normal. Its like it suddenly snaps into gear.

edit: I think the whole dang country is under cyber attack. It seems like every site I know has had a round or two of this and captcha/verification have skyrocketed.

I recently made a post about this in the help section. Someone should start checking logs.
I don't recall seeing it, but I think I'm not seeing everything. I refresh the "what's new" link and I sometimes don't see an original post as soon as it's posted, but subsequent followup posts show up.

Just as I am posting this there are several thousand guests viewing the forum.
@19wrc333 is correct the site is constantly being crawled by search engines, robots and guests.
It's not gone unnoticed.....

There's 7600 guests online now and the site is fast!
So that's pretty good really. One forum that I visit had switched to private mode for a while, while that works, obviously it's the last thing you want as it puts an enormous hurdle up for new users. Plus searchengines can then no longer visit your site, so it doesn't show up much anymore in search results.

For some sites that I host, I'm using modsecurity with a list of known bad user agents that are getting blocked. It's sad as you're punishing the better citizens under the scrapers, but you have to do something to lessen the load nowadays.

There's anubis, but it basically relies on putting a proxy server in front of your site, which increases complexity for most. Other alternatives are things like using a CDN to lessen the load.

Sadly it's about the last thing you want to be spending time on, but you probably have to do something.

The other day when I had the "slow down"....
there were just over 38,000 guests on the forum.
but I knew the problem would get taken care of, and that night it was business as usual and maybe faster.

@AudioShockwav
So whatever you did, it worked.
Thanks....

Surely only a small fraction of those numbers are real people. I know the site mentioned above restricting to members only, and that must be because of something similar to what is happening here..

Perhaps AI got better at mirroring websites (little bits at a time) and it is archiving what is here (without owner permission) like it stole everything else it uses.

Makes sense too, every time I ask chatgpt a radio question, it references this forum. It views this site as a resource.

And maybe that is enough of a reason to close the door for now here too, IDK.

edit: pros and cons to this, i get it. Exposure is good for the forum, but it makes money doing what it does and that's not fair to the source of the information.

Well, yeah! It got that right, I am almost to the point that if it's not here, I don't look elsewhere but rather start a thread and figure it out.

Yeah, exposure is great. I get it, seems like a theft of intellectual property or something, and we pay so AI can get big and strong, then when AI decides we don't need Internet anymore, it won't matter about this site.

I'm afraid the Internet was laid out, not for us to watch videos of cats or share ideas, but for what comes next, the ultimate, autonomous system of control. I believe we are creating the nervous system for the AI overlord under the guise of public utility and infrastructure, and what's next conjures up images of the book 1984 by George Orwell. I think the "net" started as a robust, redundant military communication link, if I recall correctly, and just as nuclear weapons promised to bring an end to wars everywhere, we still see war that's more devastating than ever, and the guise continues. Sorry for going way out on a tangent, I really need some of that elusive sleep.

This thread is applicable in my situation as well. A couple of days ago I was having issues too, pages wouldn't load and at some point I got a no response so I left it alone until later in the day. Afterwards it was all fine but I had started to think the site was down.
