LOL Jeff. . . It was in the title - and I didn't see it!
Brilliant!
Anyway . . .couldn't locate a schematic for it. But the protection diode is easy to find in any radio. It is always real close to where the 12v power comes right into the board. Just follow the power flow in; can't miss it. So Megatron, find that diode and clip it; then replace it with a 1n4003 diode, and then it should be as right as rain again. Cost for that part is anywhere from 5 cents each to $2 for three at Radio Shcak or your local electronics parts house. Common, easy to get part. No problemmo . . .
Please advise me to what is a good replacement mic for my SR-497HPC... Answer: 497 is "wired like Cobra", so many choices available. That radio does not need a power mic, so purchase a stock "coffin style" mic with a decent cord, like the ones that Astatic uses. The Superstar DM-507 is my go-to. https://www.ebay.com/itm/3050474478...adANq91JSiEEnz8EGqPJRBloTgEyaVsBoCtoMQAvD_BwE $12.99 + .99 cent shipping.
