We used it around the house a little bit before we were both licensed. We liked it fine. Got about a half mile range. Now that we both have our tickets we use 2M simplex and have gotten up to 4 miles.

Walmart uses MURS for their in store radios.

    Enjoy.

We have a small farm and use MURS on our commercial HT's. My YL and I both have our general licenses. Less people listening on MURS. Channels 1-2-3 have no commercial traffic. Channels 4-5 are old business channels that have been grandfathered-in.

The family uses it, they have no ham license, but I have a beam up for it, it works good in a 12 mile range, and I have heard and talked to some people at 35 miles<band condx were up>, but I hear no one else until I drive to LVL, KY and hear WALLY WORLD.

I use it with the family while camping occasionally. It's actually pretty popular around Southern California with a lot of ex-cb'ers.

I am finding it not very active here in the Chicago area. I am trying to prod a couple of the guys I rag chew with on the way to work to give it a try.

Yep, occasional use around here and like above poster mentioned .... local Wally World uses 154.570 which is shared with MURS ch3. They aren't even using a pl tone. Apparently that is a company-wide freq. and their truck fleet has radios so that they can alert store staff when they arrive and need somebody to open a dock door for them. Use of of my Icom 2 meter mobile @ 5 watts.

I think ALL Walmarts use Channel 4 and 5

Not very popular in nyc metro area..

Used to get Great range with a 18 ft 2 meter beam
( Now gone from hurricane Sandy.. i Should go up and put some new beams up..lol ) but i used to get 10-25 miles off the beam with it hooked to my HT or my 706 MKIIG or IC-7000
( I still have a Hand Held 3 element dual band beam i can use )

    Surprisingly..
    During Hurricane Sandy..
I Expected Both MURS and FRS/GMRS to be active.
Both were Quiet as could be..lol

I dont use murs but i have a gmrs repeater on a tower about 70 foot
talks about 30 to 35 miles
depends if i have the 10 watt repeater inline or if i pull it and turn the Super Repeater on
then it really get after it
my old spectra is full of the frs and gmrs and murs
and its set at 40 watts so it has no problem with or witout repeater

I'd love to see the truckers take over MURS Ch 4 or 5.
