My $20 Find - Cobra 142GTL & Amp

good find! 20 bucks! I have a 142 here that some old guy gave me
to look at. I got it cleaned up and it works. I don't know where
the owner is, so guess it's mine. but when the volume is turned down,
squelch is on, I hear a rushing noise out of the speaker. I have not looked
into this problem yet. (maybe that TA7222 IC)

I would check that fuse to the power supply, the AC/DC switch on
the back, and the power switch up front.

On many of these types of radios the power supply is always on.
So I was going to add a 120 VAC switch to disconnect from the
120 VAC mains. And also take out the capacitors, a resistor,
inductors in that RF filter, that varies by radio,
and put a 3-prong grounded cord on it, and ground properly.
And possibly re-route the wiring to the main power supply
filter storage capacitor, since these radios are known to
have a "hum" problem.

and you have "channel 41 and 42"
I want to do that do this radio, since we have an early morning
group on 41 down here. also some guys out near Phoenix and
some place in Canada are on 41 and 42 when the skip is in.

and I also have one of them TX 100 amps, that was given to me.
it has transistor bias, so would work on SSB. I still have not
worked on it yet.

keep in touch.
