I have had several of these radios down through the years, but the one I run now seems to talk better than any I have ever owned in the past...and it has done really well with all the amps I have ran also...it has the variable power in it which the watts will bottom out at zero watts and goes up to a 6-8 watt dk, and swings 20-23 watts on my meter...but I run it at a 2 watt dk and let it swing, and I don't have a amp to run so it's bare footed for now....far as Mods, it has extra channels, and the variable in it....

I'm not tech here, but would like to know how can I tell if its had that NPC mod done to it, what would I need to look for ?.....just concerned about just how clean it is on the air......and planning on getting a TS amp and run with it soon...
 

Texas star amps or most of them are clean I think the Mod V is the exception. As far as the NPC mod I think that is receive only. I think the 2000 receive is quiet and may not need it. If you want to run about 100 or so watts I have had good luck with the rm KL-203 0r Kl-203p and Kl-200 all low priced and will work good with 1 to 1 1/2 watts . Just my thinking. I am sure others will give More Info......
 
Texas star amps will require the proper size power supply for base use. Some of the smaller RM italy amps will draw far less amps or smaller power supply. Do your home work...
 
TS amps are rated for 20W input, but I wouldn't run more than 15 W peak into it. it'll run cooler, cleaner, and longer.

I've never owned one, but from what I've read, 2000's seem to be very different from radio to radio as far as tune-ability goes.
 
I have been pretty happy with my magnaforce 350hd, basically a tnt 350hd, it has toshiba transistors, b biased and gets good reports. I run the optima mk3 in front of it and it works well. With a cobra 2000 you could loaf it along and it should last s very long time if taken care of. I have never used a TS amp before so I can't comment on them. If you can find a magnaforce 350hd they are good little amps!! I Paid 80 dollars for mine, I think I did good!! Anyway, good luck finding what you want!! God bless.

Grogan I have been doing research of the TS amps, but havent fooled with looking at those RM amps..

222DBFL, I used to run a MF 350 and like a dummy sold it...actually I have ran several XF amps over the years..

But havent bought anything from XF since 2009, and from what Ive heard they now have changed hands or somethine there..

But anyways, I do like the TNT 350hd amp...
 
Yeah oatmeal I would have a hard time parting with my magnaforce 350 that's for sure. New amps are getting right expensive for a good one!!

10-4, Ive kicked myself several times for selling it...Ive had good service out of all those XF amps I ran over the years..


Robb, Ive gotten all good reports on my radio when I talked dx on ssb nobody ever mentioned any probllems out of the modulation sounding bad or anything..
 
ive used both texas star and rm amps. both work great the rm dont like much
input but are clean sounding if ya dont overdrive it.i prefer the texas star with the variable you can adjust it to what ever amount of power ya want
