Ok.... I have an old 2 pill (as in 16 year old Train built) I was using as a 4 pill driver. I blew the pills around 12 years ago and never replaced them, I pulled the pills with intentions of replacing them but came across a awesome deal on a 2x4 so I just stuck it in the closet. Everything is still in the box except for the pills, which I can't for the life of me remember what they were. Is there any way to determine what they were (or what will work) by the value of the silver dips and the amount of transformer wraps?

Input is a 330 SD
Output is a 1000 SD
Both transformers are a 2/3 wraps.
The Collectors have a 120 SD going to ground.

Thanks for any help or leads you can give me.

**edit to add**
digging around looking at the TS250 schematics, the wraps and values appear to match 2290s very closely.

I have a Toshiba 2879 amp with 330pf on the input, and 820pf on the output - that's with 1/2" X2" output transformers, which isn't terribly common and might explain the 820s?

Large mounting tabs? Could help narrow it down.

Proportionally, it does look like smaller tabs...I'd agree with 543 on that.

But the more I look it seems like the "ears" of the tabs were cut out much wider than necessary, and I think this tends to skew the perception.

Just thinking of what was on the market at the time....I really don't remember many class C amps of this style that used something other than 2290s or 2879s.

They were out there....but few and far between.

Freight Train didn't build many using 1446s, but he did build a few. I want to say he used 1446s as driver only boxes when he built them and it was by request only. His one time partner, "Skid Row" built Bulldog amps and he did use the 1446s a good bit... together those two owned the south, but sadly Train is gone and ain't no one seen Skid Row in years.

I don’t mean to use, but to size up the mounting tab holes on the amp.
They're all the same mounting base and tabs.... Nothing special about the cutouts... Here's a 2879 next to a 454...the other is a 454 stacked on top of a 2879...identical measurements.

The hole spacing is the same as far as mounting to a heat sink, but I am referring to the cut out in the board.

I don’t believe a 2879 and comparable will fit into a cutout made for a 1446.

The 454 and 2879 both fit the cutouts in the board, I don't have a 1446 to check but I'm almost positive I don't remember having any oddball transistors, so I'm going to say it was 2290s in it. Thanks for the size education, that's some nice info to have.
