new Cobra 148gtl

I have a new 148 here, it's been working great, had it dead keying 2 watts or so swinging to 6 or so.
Accidently put 17 or so volts to it.
Now, it's stuck at 10 watt dead key, and No modulation at all.
VR10 makes no change what so ever to the dead key.
What could make it do this ?

Sounds like you popped the AM regulator transistor. Simply replace it. If you don't have an exact match handy, you can temporarily stick a used CB final in its place, and it will work fine until you can get the correct part. I had a customer one time beg me for a cheap, no-waranty fix for that same problem in that same radio, so I stuck a used final in his. He stopped back by a couple years later, and it was still going strong.

someone was saying TR41 ? but i dont see a TR41.
this sound right ?
