My horizontally polarized homebrew single wire delta loop at 36' AGL outperforms my Antron 99 on DX about 95% of the time................I've regularly seen a 3dB to 6dB signal increase when switching from the A99 to the delta loop.

It's always been a mystery to me why operators who mostly talk DX choose to spend money on a name brand vertical, when a homemade horizontal antenna will outperform it most of the time!

Now if you talk local a lot, then it totally makes sense to have a vertical.
I figure the best plan is to have two antennas, a vertical and a horizontal of some sort. Beams are fantastic if you have room, but even a horizontal wire will work better than any vertical on DX!

Mines still up lol as it survived a direct hit from a tornado it'll stay there till it fails then something more prone to breakage like a Siro or Maco will go up.

well I found an older Imax the date codes say 14 15 16 17
The bottom section is 96 inches, middle is 94 and top is 94-1\2
thats pretty much 24 feet. I wonder if I got a old good one?

the clear coat is shot though, anyone know how I could restore it? sand it with what grit and clear coat it with something non conductive....what would that be? anyone know?

thanks

Allow me to change the subject for a few minutes.
How many guys /gals remember "many" years ago (maybe late 70's early 80's?) when full size Pontiac sedans were being manufactured and delivered to dealerships with Chevrolet engines?
Wow, was that ever a mess-up...or was it? When a prospective Pontiac buyer opened the hood at the dealership and had seen the orange Chevy engine with orange Chevrolet valve covers, all h*** broke loose and that was deal-breaker for sure! The color of the Pontiac engines were blue. There were many owners who did not open the hood prior to signing the documents and they had taken delivery of the car. You can imagine the shock they had when they opened the hood a few days or weeks later. General Motors gave the Pontiac owners two options. Dealership to order a Pontiac engine to replace the Chevy engine, or accept a monetary refund and keep the Chevy engine. Solaron and the new owners knew about the shorter antennas and did not inform their suppliers and the public. I call that a FOUL and they should some-how, some-way reimburse the guys who are having issues with the new and shorter antennas.
I owned one and was glad it had a chevy 350. The pontiac engine were horrible in the late 70s

I miss that car.

I once bought a bad IMAX 2000. Out of the box it was poorly manufactured. The connector was hanging off the bottom section, where it should have been glued. I put it back in the box and had it returned. This was about 4 years ago.
