The 6900's have some of the best RX I've ever had in a radio! They will pull in stations pretty clean other radios don't even get static from. (This includes the 2970DX I just sold.) This is the main reason I wish I could get one of them without the birdie noise defect. The audio is clean, clear, and LOUD.
I'm thinking about a Lincoln because of the RX and the NB/ANL is supposed to be the best. I'm told they will out RX the 6900's and cleaner.
Some questions I have:
Are they one of the best and cleanest receiving radios you've had signal to noise ratio? Does the NB/ANL work good? (On my 2970DX it was like, is this button really connected to something?)
When skip is running I use SSB, but I mostly run AM on the road and at my base. I understand they are weak on the AM side and don’t even have the audio a 2970DX has. Rodgerbird sent me a URL with an AMC mod. The person I'm talking to about getting one said just to keep the d-key down to 5 watts and put something on it like an Astatic mic.
I know it's not going to be a 6900, but I want to make sure if I get one it's going to be loud enough on AM to be heard and get good reports.
I'll be running a Cobra XL 350 amp with it. With around a 2 watt d-key what should I expect to see it swing to? The amp likes around 20 to hit full output. What d-key should hit around 20 watts swing?
Thanks,
Mr Gnome
