Welcome to the forum SlikSak!

Let me start by pointing you at this thread on the Cobra 29: 50 watt Cobra 29 review from FGBest. That will give you some ideas on the mods available.

Range depends a lot on conditions, terrain, etc., but I'm guessing that you shouldn't have any problem talking 40 miles with 450 watts unless the terrain is just too hilly or obstructed. The problem will be if you can HEAR stations that far away.

There are a lot of good antennas out there. It might be a good idea if you give us your vehicle type and any special considerations to help you pick something. A simple answer is that a plain 'ole 102" whip on a spring works really well.

yeah if you're going to be wacking trees with your antenna the 102 whip minus the spring would be a great choice but i would'nt install it on the tool boxn not enough support there, they're more suited to a on the side of the truck box application or bumper with a ballmount as they are long and cumbersome.

Hello everyone. I have a coupe of questions here for you. I have a Cobra 29 ltd classic that my brother gave me as a gift. I will mostly be talking in light to heavily wooded areas. (Country roads on the way to work etc.) What I would like to know is what mods are worth the money to get this thing arkin and sparkin??? Are the mods on this radio simplistic or complex? I am fairly decent with electronics and have a steady hand. Also, and I know that this question has several variables, what kind of range can I get with a 450 watt amp? Also, any suggestions on an antenna would be greatly appreciated. (The antenna will be mounted on a tool box.) Thank you very much for any and all assistance. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D">
