One of the ladies in our office makes them every year to give away at Christmas. Usually 2 dozen each. She's been doing this for the past 25 years. Oh my goodness, they are so good!! And yes codeman, same here. Tamales are a very popular side.

We didn't cook the tamales. There are plenty of places to buy them around here. It a lot of work to make them for sure.
Tamales are more of a Christmas thing here, my Aunt always makes big batches of them.
Shredded pork and habanero tamales or jalapeno and cheese are da bomb.
Now I am hungry.......

In New Mexico tamales are usually more of a Christmas thing. At least around Las Cruces, anyways. Here in AZ I hardly ever even hear about them, which means I'm probably hanging with the wrong crowd.
Tamales are definitely more popular at Christmas, but we have them for Thanksgiving as well.
It's hard to find good tamales...but Henry's in San Angelo makes some very good ones. IMO. Best I've had in years and I usually try em most places we go that serve em that is.
Wifes spanish co-worker at the hospital has a grandmother that makes Tamales sometimes and sells em we always order some. Homemade is awesome. Specially from grandma even if not yours lol.
And Henry's is still around. They moved to a new location around 10 years ago. 10 to 12 blocks west of their previous location. Larger building and more parking.
We were there visiting my sister last Oct when her Husband was in hospice. We went to Henry's several times...couldn't get enough. The parking lot was always crowded, but the place is huge inside and we never had an issue getting seated.
