Paint rubbing off HT buttons

Hello all. I use my VX8R all the time, especially at work. I never bought a cover for it and now some of my buttons are becoming unreadable. Is anyone aware of a black paint or rubber coating of some sort which I could applied over the white worn through areas before buying a cover?
 

A new keypad would be easy to install. I was also going to suggest clear nail polish. Cheap and easy.
