Palomar 450 FET

This is the newly redesigned Palomar Low Drive LD450FET MOSFET linear amplifier. The amp is similar to the High Drive version except, with the Low Drive version, the 4 final ERF7530 MOSFET transistors are now driven by a single ERF7530.
• This device requires 2-10 watts to reach its high performance output.
• Class AB1 for distortion-free SSB
• Suggested dead key power........5 watts
• with 15 watts swing output is 300+....with 25 watts swing output is 400+
• LO-MED-HI power switch
• Class AB1
• Adjustable SSB Delay
• Modulation Light
• Preamp for receiving weak signals -- 25db
• Super Clean Sound

the page for the high drive one doesnt say much, but the low drive page does say its AB1

your not having much good luck these days with new items.. i was looking at this low drive version.

I'm using my Optima and 2950. My TS-350HD and HLA -150V have an input SWR of 1.2:1 or less. No 8' jumper needed and both units sound great on SSB.

If the amp was built to stated specs, I would be writing how good of an amp it was, instead of reporting on a turd.

They are taking it back.

It's all boxed up and ready to be returned.
8' jumper and low pass filter my ass. Wish if wasn't sealed I'd like to peer inside.

It was a piece of chit, eh?

Well, if nothing else, I know I won't get one of these in the future. Nothing beats the good old bipolar transistors.

~Cheers~

I like mine. It performs well the only gripe I have with it is the fan is LOUD! Its a palomar 450FET board and performs admirably. I get probably 350 out of it but I dont drive it as hard as I could and I talk almost exclusively SSB. It almost never heats up but then I am no bucketmouth either so I added a switch for LOUD ass fan and eventually I am going to add some resistors for a 2nd speed on it.

I was looking into buying a new base amp. The current prices are insane. The last Amp I owned was an Acom.
I believe it's like $800 more than what m paid several times years ago. I was even wanting to buy a new power supply. Those are crazy high, too.

Since MFJ threw in the towel, it seems to have driven amp prices up both used and new for real Ham radio amps.
