Palomar ELITE 400 HD input wattage?

I agree I have a Palomar 450hd now in my mobile I'm running it with it's own battery in the trunk my rci ranger 2950 DX is running from the AGM battery in the front ran all new 8 gauge wiring good ground ,on low it gives 150 with deadkey of 2 watts,on medium 225, but when I put it on hi it won't go past 250. Can't seem to figure out why.also it's iny mobile but still I should be getting at least 325 to 350 on hi
On what kind of wattmeter?
A peak-reading meter's indication will be different from an average-reading meter.
If removing the cover reveals any components that appear overheated or burned, that's where the troubleshooting normally begins.

I have an early palomar TX400...
Have no clue what the pills are, never heard of them, they are Ssm RF85's BUT I can say from my galaxy 99v, with a 3 watt dead key in, and a 40 watt PEP, im seeing 500-540 on 3 different meters, and it takes a good 1/2 hr of ratchetjawin to start feeling much heat from the sink.
On sideband, same input, it kisses 800+
I did speak to one guy who had one of these exact amps in the day. He said that he used to know what the pills cross referenced to but now cant remeber
He said that he did remeber the pills were 150 watt pills though,so the output makes sense

RF power transistors ( 85, 100, 120) were mil spec devices made back in the late 70s - early 80s. Like Timex watches, " will take a lickin' and keep on tickin'." That TX400 is probably not a Palomar, but a TX amp made by Steve Canfield back in the day.

Yep thats exactly it, less the fan kit, and ill tell you what , it frickin rocks.
Any idea what the pills cross reference to?
..mine are 100%, but would like to find out, just in case I DO ever have to replace them.
I also agree with the 80-90 watt dead-key out of the amp. Isn't 25 watts per pill the formula?

this is a 5 pill.....so would the driver also be a 1446?
i did find steve canfield on facebook in the cb forums. i also sent him a message, but havent heard back yet from him.

I have three TX amps: TX250, TX600, and a TX800. My 600 has a RF110 driver and 4 - RF120s. Will do 750 watts peak all day long.
TX amps were the BEST ever made. Steve was an amplifier genius. Like you said his amps "frickin rocks bigtime." I got my 600 in '78, and after 50+ years of hard use still going strong. Bulletproof. TXs seldom come up for sale anymore. If I see one, I grab it - working or not. Just for the parts. 73.

I was gonna start calling places like rf parts ect and picking their brains. I've noticed that if you do see these TX series amps out there they are expensive compared to other amps in the same wattage class....
Yes, wattage rating- wise they do cross. But being to withstand being overdriven or over-voltaged the RF pills are in a class by themselves

That's what the guy at aRF parts said too. My big thing was just to find out what the crossover was just in CASE of a future mishap, id be able to order a new set and install them
