Part needed for Turner Super Sidekick Microphone

I am looking for a Motorola chip for this mike, part number is MFC 4000B.

I have found several places on line selling this part or the equivalent for $20.00 or more, is this the going
rate or can it be obtained for less?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd buy a beater off ebay and swap the chip

I may have to do that, I have been checking local sources and may have located one. Thanks for the suggestion.

It might work, the Motorola chip is a 4 pin device, the lm386 is 8 pin, looking at the data sheet the schematic is similar, I will compare both schematics for compatibly.

im guessing turner made 2 versions of the board,
i remember looking in my ssk and thinking they could have used a lower noise lower output opamp rather than something more commonly found driving a speaker in low outout audio devices.
i never did hook a loud speaker up to see if it really would drive it to a reasonable sound level.

I am going to try the lm386 just for grins, it may work better than the original, you never know until you try it.

The one with LM386 was the Telex SSK (with Turner print or was sold under the name Turner)
When this version came out (from 1983/84), Turner had not existed for 4 years ...
