I’m not even sure where to post this story. I’ve bitten off and ordered a poc radio. It’s a $35 4g radio like rapid radio. Uses Zello.
I didn’t pay attention and I had to turn around and order a SIM card.
I’ve used it in WiFi. I now have the sim installed and I’ve ran it on that in my normal Zello groups and addd a couple others for testing purposes.
So far it’s clear and neat. Yeah I know and use the same “that’s not radio” or “what if the towers go down” or “I’m not paying for a monthly radio fee” arguments. I still claim all those are correct. After I run it a while I’ll have a running average of cell data usage and be able to figure out just what the cost will be monthly.
If it’s $5 or under a month I’ll keep a subscription. If it’s over that I’ll just cancel it.
