Does this radio have a second generation? What's the 11 meter mod procedure? I came across a discussion that a bridge and jumper is required. I also read it can be done via the menu. I thought I read the menu could only be used in the later released units. I have no idea if there is a later release, though.

Wish they chose a different name. Searches are polluted with results from the old base radios.

It's the other way around. Searches for info on the great old base radio are polluted with results for the modern mobile, which is a mediocre radio at best, and should really have been called the "President Nixon" instead of trying to ride on the reputation of a great legacy product.

I think glory days were the 80's Uniden chassis radios, Uniden was building radios for them and other brands and got good at it.
The first president radio I owned was a early Lincoln, built by Uniden for President electronics of Belgium, long before President Electronics Group of France was even a company.

About the time the first generation George came out suddenly the prices on President radios skyrocketed here.
President has a convoluted history, as far as I know the United States President trademark radios first we're offered for sale in Europe in 1980, but if you dig into the history of President France they report to have been started by two brothers in France in 1969, yet Jazzsigner had a really good history of President over in Europe before the brand become popular here that doesn't all add up..
Got to remember,no Internet back then it took a bunch of landline phone calls to answer any questions and often when you mentioned the word export, the phone would go silent and they had no idea what you were talking about.
There is a bunch of history about President radios in this old thread.
Including full catalogs from the 1980's of President stuff.

sorry for the d rail

Go to (at the 11:10 time mark):

It looks like he doesn't put in the jumper, but does it through the hidden menu (which is the same hidden menu as the new George mobile).

I appreciate the video. I like the added features. If they keep it up, President could have a nice 10 meter mobile that even EHAM dudes would buy. I've been waiting for a dedicated 10 meter mobile. For now, I can't justify paying retail for the Washington. If I was to come across a used unit at a nice price, I'd grab one. A few of the added menu items are a nice touch. My QT-60 suits me just fine.

I was originally wanting the QT-80, but snagged the QT-60 due to being cheaper. Sometimes, I think I should have grabbed the QT-80. I'm quite happy with the QT-60, though. Very impressed with it.

I have to admit it caught my eye as well since President until recently had a history of putting their name on radio's that where very well built.

My problem with them at present is that they are just rebranding radio designs by Chinese companies that make similar products at a 1/2 to 1/3 the price of a President Washington. Sure I like the user interface abd layout better but when you are basicly getting an Ares II at 2X the price that is a diffacult pill to swallow!

A Eueopean guy I think out of Iraland showed it next to Geoerge and the board is similar but still very different. You have to unsolder a bridge and install a jumper. As far as I know their is no menu mod like the S890.

I was going to post a thread just last night just how affordable Washington Base Radio's can be had for if you shop around that are cosmeticaly in good shape and largely unmodified. It sounds just as good as a CObra 2000 on are and it has less to break or need to repair.
