Hey Everyone,
So I am aligning a 1st edition Washington and using the Sams manual for it. I do realize that there are many errors in these manuals but sometimes it makes me question what they actually meant. While aligning the receive they instruct you to adjust the RF gain to .5 "volts" audio and the for the AM balance the ask for .5 "watts" audio. Is it volts or watts?

To add to this question, what do you use to measure the audio while doing alignments? I have been using my Sinnader 3 and aligning for volts/sinad. I am unsure how I would align for watts.

Thanks as always!!!

This really only matters to hold the speaker drive level below the distortion level.

The exact audio voltage to obtain 0.5 Watts into 8 ohms is 0.707 Volts RMS.

Not a critical difference. So long as the receive audio doesn't get objectionably louder or weaker when changing modes, the AM balance is set okay.
