Pricey, but interesting

I attached the K-602 fan kit with a three-position rocker switch to my 955HPC+ and it is effective. I like it because the fans draw heat away from the heat-sink and not into the heat-sink as other fan kits. I attached the kit to the AT-5555Plus for test purposes. The fans are much further away from the heat-sink fins on the AT-5555Plus. The heat-sink fins are 5/8" long on the AT-5555Plus and 1-1/4" long on the 955. There is too much gap between the fins and the fans on the AT-5555Plus.

I'm surprised you need a fan on that radio.
It's the same circuit inside as the Anytone 5555N2. I have that Anytone version and I can yak all day on sideband at 60+ watts PEP and while the heatsink does get hot, it's never too hot to touch and there's no power loss even when it does heat up. Room temp in my shop where I have the radio ranges from about 50 to 80F depending on season.......

Does the 955HPC+ have a smaller heatsink than the Anytone? Just curious why it would need a fan...........

On a related note.....I have an original 6666 in my vehicle and it gets way too hot with the little bitty heatsink it has and it could sure use a fan!

No, no, no. It does not need a fan. Once in a while I like to try a (external) "gimmick or gadget" and test for myself. The day I ordered the fan kit was the same day I skipped buying a lotter ticket. LOL! LOL!

That looks like a great little fan kit.

The fact that you say the heat sink does get hot would be the exact reason why I would add a fan kit. I would rather be safe then sorry.

President Radios must know something we don't know because they sell and recommend the external fan kit for the new Washington Mobile. Isn't odd that the air flow is towards the heat sink?

Fans are cheap. You do not need random bracket hanging off the radio. Screws expand rubber. You just use rubber chunks in the sinks to mout fans.

If mounted in a base setting any off the shelf walmart fan turned down low and aimed through the sinks will move more air. If installed on dash install so the defrost vents on dash aim up to sinks. Low speed fresh air or AC blows through.

Fans should either have their own supply or be fully regulated so that the fan speed does not drop when you key the radio.

All these bolt on kits are garbage usually. Not always but are normaly junk with cheap fans, poorly made brackets, non-regulated, non-shielded fans etc......

I have not used this product but I doubt many people on this site could not do the same or better on their own with some thought and effort. It would be different if they where affordable or cheap but if not why bother?
