About to bring some new life into a couple old Pride Dx-300. Love them Nomad boards!
Just wondering if anyone has tried to use a blower like used in the larger Ameritron amplifiers in a Dx300.
Looking at the size in the diagram it might just be able to be made to work.
35cfm is better then the 13 or so cfm you get using the common dayton blower that normally gets used as a replacement.
Going to be using a 8930 / dx393 tube and just wanting better cooling.
Hate to desecrate the back panel mounting a blower like I've seen some do.
Any suggestions?
Thanks Thomas

Used to have a picture of a blower mod one of my customers did to his Pride. Found that a plastic caulk-gun tube was a near-perfect fit for the old blower's metal flange. It was tall enough to protrude through a hole in the top of the cabinet cover. A blower with a 2-inch round flange was bolted to the top of the cabinet and used the caulk tube as a duct.

Looked quite odd, but did the job. Made it a PITA to take apart and reassemble.

More air is always good, especially if you go for the 8930 type tube. Had a guy tell me years ago that too much air is not desirable. Found the quote in Eimac's book "Care and Feeding of Power Grid Tubes". Airflow is only excessive if it dislodges the tube from the socket.

We use a Dayton 1TDN1 or equivalent. Has just enough capacity for the stock 250 tube and fits without an act of congress.

I've used this same dayton blower over the years. I'm sure i first heard about it from you on wwdx.
Takes care of the noisy blower problems. Just doesn't push enough air for me. I get long winded.
May have to order the one I posted above and see how it works out.
Too bad I couldn't find a used one to check it's fit ability. The new one is pricey at $135.00 . But for the extra cfm probably worth the investment to cool a pricey 8930 tube.

Got the new blower mounted.
Took some nibbling to make a square hole. I really hate to do this but in the end it won't be seen and will be a big improvement in keeping the new 8930 tube cool.
Used a sheet of 1/16" virgin teflon as a gasket and to cover the original hole. No need to seal the bottom cover with a foam gasket on this one ! Won't hurt for a little air leakage.
Now someplace ive got a tall stack of Nomad boards that came in last week. Oh and a nice new black and brushed silver face vynle to install.

Boy does this fan blow! At 56cfm it should keep the 8930 very cool.
Got the new face vynle installed.
This one got the bias adj on the front band switch. Someone had removed the band switch. I prefer it on the back as I set it and forget it!
Notice the extra board in the bottom. Installed a nice 2 min time delay to prevent it from being keyed until the tube is warm. The power led now is green untill the 2 min the it changes to red for ready !
About ready to burn a new tube in .
None of this would be possible if we didn't have Nomad and his awesome replacement boards.

Nomad the blower is the upgrade for the Al-1500 ameritron .
The best price I've found is From Tom at CTR Engineering.
Here's his Ebay link. But I bought directly from his website. Same price but at least it saved him ebay fees.

He also has the stock replacement for the Al-1500 a little cheaper. But I wanted the black blower thought it looks better and more cooling.
