Last night I was talking ssb for about 2 hours and my tx was cutting in and out even when I went over to AM?This morning I checked for loose bad solder joints broken wires etc..... none found.Fired it back up and you can hear audio and the mod meter is working but no output.just wondering if the finals dropped out?

Did you do an "Eyeball" inspection inside the rig, checking for blown capacitors, burned resistors, or other suspicious looking components in that area?

"usually" a final will either work or it wont work.

that being said, i have a 2000gtl and it would cut the TX intermittantly. on-off-on-off.
didnt think it was the final, but after checking all around the area; i decided to replace it, and sure enough, it worked.
it still works today.

I just installed new finals and a new am regulator. Now I have ssb but no AM tx?Collector voltage on both finals is 13 volt until I key it and the volts disappears?

the plot thickens :? ........weird , cause now it sounds like the AM regulator you said you already changed ? Hmmmm

i would say now its time to start suspecting the 10 volt electrolytic caps in that section of the radio.
i have read on more than one forum that they can cause weird problems, and your radio is probably getting old.
where was it made?
taiwan? phillipines?

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
