has anybody tried reversing the polarising filter on the lcd panel to make the background dark with the digits lighted, my buddy used to do it to everything from pocket calculators to hf sets, i thought he was crazy but it did work..

Mabee I'm wrong, but I dont think you can do that with a 7 segment LED. You could possibly do it with a plasma screen like on the RCI 2950 but again I dont think its possible on the 7 segment LEDs found on 99% of the radios.

You need to use an exacto knife and extreme patience/care. You simply remove the filter and flip it over.
