In 77 Elvis Costello and the attractions were set to perform on SNL.
Before the show Lorne Michaels (SNL producer) informed Costello that he was absolutely not going to be allowed to perform radio radio. Radio radio is a song about how commercial radio changed from playing real music, and begin cramming junk down out throats via the airwaves. As Costello goes into a song (less than zero) that was approved to be played Costello stops the performance, and states that there's no reason to perform the agreed-upon song (less than zero.) Being that Saturday night live was produced, owned and shown on NBC who also owned and operated many radio stations, Michaels didn't approve of the lyrics, and the negative message the song puts out about commercial radio. He (Costello) played it anyway. Rumor has it that Lorne Michaels stood in the wings giving Costello the middle finger as he and the attractions played radio radio. Elvis Costello was banned from ever playing SNL again. But eventually made a return 12 years later. Radio radio in my opinion is an incredible song. Written and performed by a musical genius. If you're not familiar with the song or its lyrics please give it a listen. 73
