I doubt they're going to have any useful parts for us - just cheap electronics from Chinese sellers.

I've purchased solder and a few other things from them in the last 6 months or so but looking through the site there but the basics like you find a lot of other places. To me what made the shack different was going to the closest shop and looking for nothing in particular but leaving with something I justified as needing. Just my opinion

The word shack has radio aficionados historical flavor.

But even in childhood more than fifty years past (and living near to headquarters), that word conjured the wrong image.

“Imogene’ Daddy, he live down by the river in a shack”.

And their advertising left too much on the table. Big company, cramped vision.

Reliable or Quality doesn’t equal shack.

My use of them didn’t include shopping mall locations. Totally wrong vibe. Needed to always be in a strip center or free-standing. Zombie-land doesn’t lend to informed discussion re ones latest project.

Past the original CB or 8-track era, I rarely used one. Other retailers had my attention (owner on premises).

Now that I think on it,

    remember Reddy Kilowatt?

Had RS had a cartoon mannequin — 1910s, sleeve garters, the whole bit — working radio on an old roll top desk near a multi-pane window

We’d eventually — as viewers or readers — been taken outside the door. The garden shed. The man cave. Sound of Marconi shortwave.

“Build it myself? Sure . . with the quality components at your local Radio Shack”.

And a QSO to call him back . . bid us goodbye.

Tandy married a woman owned the 6666 Ranch. By 1969 hired IM Pei to design a house in Westover Hills on a lot that Frank Lloyd Wright had originally designed one (never built).

Hmmm, 6666 ranch isn't very far from me. They just filmed some scenes for some show called Yellowstone there (it's irrelevant to topic) but it's interesting that there's a connection there

I got my first modern 2 meter radio from the shack ,a HTX 212 and its still going strong. Had several diffrent electronics from rs that were great.
Pro 94 and 95 n 2046 scanners that still work great. Wish they were still like they used to be

The Antennacraft TV antennas that Radio Shack use to sell were top notch. Also, the 10 feet mast pipe sections were heavy duty, and the heavy duty wall brackets were very good too.
