Ranger 2970DX or n2?

the difference in power wont be noticed on the receive end .
are the MOSFETS in the N2 more likely to be damaged from high vswr ?
if so how high is too high for them ?

The N2 will do alittle more but I would rather have a properly tuned 2970DX myself. The extra 50 watts er so makes little difference.

The RCI-2970dx is rated @ 150 wts. The RCI-2970n2 is rated @ 300 wts. But i would not turn up the N2 to 300 wts. Set at 250 wts. the radio does just fine. I had them both and both radios are great.

Many of the N2 were coming out doing 300 watts (I also heard of one that was doing close to 400)- but this does mean that they were rated at 300.

Have you tested any of the 2nd version's yet? I have heard of several now that are coming out of box doing around 215/225 - which is what they should be doing.

I had mine retuned from the factory 300 watts down to 215, I am now running it on a 36 amp P.S. - draws 18 amps on SSB (which is what the manual states it should draw).

I sold my N2 and now i will be buying a RCI-2950dx. Don't ask me why please don't. I'm still kicking my self and my butt is getting sore. The N2 are great radios and i am glad to see Ranger is turning them down from the factory like they should of been from the get-go. I am glad to see that you have a darn good one. Uh want to sell it ??? LOL 73's and have a great day DXman

and with that you can drive an 8 pill wonderfully

both the n2 and dx are great radios.i perfer the new look of the n2,s
with the blackend background.on am i believe the mosfets
allow the radio to hit full pep from a low dk. the older 2970s
this usually wasnt possibkle without cutting the limiter or disabling
the amp and putting it on a switch.

2970 or N2

Have an N2 it puts out 200 to 225w on peaks also have a 2995DX it puts out around 135 to 160w on peaks, they are both stock and sound very good when I talk back to wife on them. I would think the N2 would have a little better S unit reading when you get out there a ways, but don't no that one way or another so can't say...................Oldtimer:crying:

Ive looked at and thought about those new N2 models myself. I have the older version orange face 2970 and like that one it has excvellent receive.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
