Deciding between these two as a base radio. (Backing up my old Ranger 296DX)
I like the look of the new 69VHP and it has SSB.. but it runs a 3rd gen 6900 type board.
The 2970 has the normal board with 8 transistor kicker under it..
The 69 needs some soldering to open up the bands. The 2970N2 is eChip.
I can get the 69VHP for like $370 shipped the 2970N2 is $428 shipped.
I like the idea of having 200w or so for SSB and I can skip running my TS350.
I wish someone would test the new 69VHP thoroughly and run a video of it's specs and if it holds frequency.
Lester said it has a slightly different board number on it then the 6900 board..
I don't plan on tweaking the 2970N2 to max modulation. Just plugging in the eChip.. if I run the 69VHP I'd probably have to fiddle with the power knob to make happy with the TS350 and adjust the internals to lower lows..
