I have been running a Ranger 696SSB Base but today I ordered a RCI 2985DX. Could not afford a Yaesu.

I will be running a KLV 350 or 550. What can I expect?

Does anyone run a 2985?

The only thing that I do not like about the 2985 is that it will not tune in the "0's", like 27.470 and so on like the 2995 does. Most foreign contries are all on the "0's".

Otherwise it is a great radio. I am sure you will enjoy it Jerry.

Are you sure the 2985 doesn't tune the "zero's"? I thought it was just a 2950dx in a black box. The 2950dx does the evens.

It better tune the "0s", or I will be POed. I was told it would. I gotta slide! Suppose to be like the 2995 without the power.I got the power.

Skeeterman,

I don't have a 2985, but I do have a KLV350. I really like mine set everything up right and 200 watts on the low side, 350 on the high side is what you can expect.

Hope this helps

The 2985 is hooked up. Still using the stock mic. thinking about replacing with the 575m-6. It worked great with the Ranger. What mic would you recommend?

Also... Have deadkey set at 2W AM into the KLV350. Only get about 225 on the hi side. Any sugestions on how to drive it?

2985

I've had one for about 3 years now & love it. Easy to mod for channels...Should be a "dongle plug" which is included with packaging (unpack carefully). The plug plugs into back of display board...will give ya 24.000-32.000 coverage. RANGERUSA.COM for clarifier mod. Leave limiter in radio....everything you need to adjust for power & modulation is marked on the board. Enjoy, HOOTY ;)

well just ordered a 2985dx but they said it comes with a expansion module to plug in for expansion, not a jumper.

Why would this radio need a module rather than a jumper.

I hope it`s as good as the 2985dx that takes a jumper.

they said it was the newest 2985dx that ranger just started producing again.

Please help me understand all this expansion stuff.
:?

I got the 2985dx on thurs. of this week. I got a expansion module with the radio and pluged it in one of the jumper plugs behind the freq. counter and got the right one first try, it did not have instructions with it so I guessed.

I love the freqency coverage on this thig, anything from 24.0000-32.0000. I know not to talk on the thing other than 11 meter freqs but I was wondering what freqs I can listen on to here hams? I scanned but nothing going on that I can hear.

Oh, and how do I turn the modulation up? I only get about 20-40% on my meter or should I just get a power mic?

Thanks,
AP
