Just to throw out my 1 cents worth Use the Cobra for AM and get a real HF rig for SSB. MUCH better RX & TX than an Export. You can usually find a Yaesu FT-840 or Icom 718 in NICE used shape for $300-$400 and if you ever decide to get a General or Extra license you are already set. Also makes for a nice short wave reciever (if it's got the AM filter)if you aren't interested in Ham.Check em out...FT-840 & IC-718 They also take up less space

WEll, i like the 2990 beter myself then the 2995DX, but then again, thats my 2 cents! Also, a Cobra 2000 is a mighty fine radio0 and has good Audio tone to it, but there is a BIG power difference!

I like the 2995DX a lot. It has a great RX and great audio quality. Like everyone said, there is also a big power difference. I have sold many of these 2995s and have heard nothing but good things about them. All of my customers who have called or wrote back have said they got great reports with them. I, personally, would lean toward the 2995.
