Do modern broadcast radio transmitter's still use transmitting tubes? Or do they use large industrial mosfets for output power (wattage?)
I'm sure there's vintage transmitter's still being used (mostly on AM) around the country. I imagine most of those vintage transmitter's are being used in small towns peppered throughout the south, and Midwest. I assume that companies building modern broadcast transmitters no longer use tubes for the most part. I know there's a few members in that industry that would be able to shead some light on my curiosity. I've never seen a tube with a handle but am positive there are or were tubes large enough to need one in order to safely lift it without being damaged.

I've heard they are going solid state but I couldn't tell you exactly what they are using.
