Wow this is really neat and thought it would make a great topic.Just think of all the applications this could be used on. Self healing tires?

Sounds like the same basic idea behind self vulcanizing rubber tape. A few hours after you wind a couple layers it is impossible to separate the layers and the whole thing becomes a solid piece of rubber. I use it to weather proof coax cables.
