I have recently purchaced the Astatic final edition for use on my RCI 2985DX. Having a little trouble setting (understanding) the mic gain.

On the 575 handheld that I was using, the radio mic gain was set wide open, and the mic's adjustment was set about halfway. This combo seemed to work very well. NOW..

Can someone give me a starting point? Should I rely on the radio mic gain knob, or work more with microphone's adjustment pot?

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Skeeter

I have the 2980 with same mic

Try gain on mic just open to 1/4 at most and use radio gain

Picks up less bacgroung noise in room

Sometimes what is good on SSB is not on AM

Thanks for the reply salty. I have been workin with it all day. I have it set about 1/4 open and the radio at 7. Its ok, but I think it still needs something. The 575 handheld still sounds better.

Im gonna get this thing workin!

Hey Jerry, look on Ebay and Yahoo Auctions and see if you can not find you an Astatic 1104C Mic. It is a beautiful sound and is a little more bassy sounding, it has a tone control on the mic and sounds beautiful on SSB.

Will do Dean. Guess I can put this Eagle "Final Edition" back in the display case that it was shipped in.

Ya know, I remember having the same problem with a black knight K eagle, that I once had. LoL

Thanks for the replys.

Quote:
If you need a desk mike with more bass, that may be the way to go.

Or you could go this route and change the wireing....Apex 430 large diaphragm condenser mic with shock mount, Behringer

Ultravoice Pro VX2000, Behringer DSP1100 Parametric EQ, shielded

cableing and 20db pad, wired for Kenwood. All manuals included and

carrying pack for the mic. Makes the already good 870 sound very

nice. $300USD

Silver Salutes do not sound bad, but to carry the price of the Silver Eagle, will they stand up in time as the Silver Eagle has? I know they are heavy little buggers too

Dean, You were right. Hooked up the 1104C today. Very nice on SSB and AM. Good reports from everyone.

The final edition eagle is going back in the box.

Thanks for the advice.
