Sirio Mag Mount Recommendations?

Hold the presses......

Hey Brett, We had discussed the sirio antenna via phone in the not to distant past....Remember? Glad to see you finally decided to pull the trigger on one.

I agree with the before posted recommendations. I have been using the 5000 with the 145pl mag for almost a year with no issues. I have also changed the coax to LMR200 ultraflex. It seems to be doing a great job. Just remember when you do change the coax you use a high heat iron on the sheild/ground connection to lessen the chances of the ground comming loose on you.

Good luck.

Give me a buzz when you have the time.

the 145 is easy to service/change coax,

remove the 4 screws around the so239 and lift the top plate,

make sure you don't lose the rubber o-rings,

make sure you assemble it the same way it came apart, don't turn the plate,

some people lose the ground connection by not putting the top plate back in the same position ;)

If you go with a wider diameter coax ( anything other than the origional will be of a wider diameter) you will not be able to use the origional strein releif. I found it easier just to seal the opening on the backside with some clear silicone compound. Just make sure you "rough up" the plastic a little with some green scotch brite to give the smooth plastic some "tooth".

I highly suggest doing this if you want to maintain the origional weather tight seal of this mag as it would be a better seal than the origional "strein releif" was.

I just went and had a look on top of the car and you're right, two screws :)

I must have a screw loose in my head :) I'll update the article.

Thanks man!

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
