It seems like everything is discontinued or out of stock.

If it is not an Anytone Radio it seems like everything is discontinued or out of stock.

Those few things that are available are stupid expensive for what is being offered!

Is this all due to Covid-19 and how badly China handled it?

All kinds of radios are still available up here in Canada. I wonder if tariffs are starting to effect imports of radios to the U.S. ?
Remember, even so called "American" brands like President are all made in China, Vietnam, Taiwan, Korea and Malaysia. All countries that the Orange Buffoon has put huge tariffs on.
I have a feeling new radios are going to become a rare commodity in the USA soon.........along with new iPhones and most other electronic things.....

Plenty of radios in the UK including brands like President. Thing is though that most CBs, especially the export radios, are made outside of the USA. Many are made in China so they were subject to 125% import duty more than doubling the price of the radio. Vietnam, Taiwan all subject to high tariffs.

Well Galaxy offerings seems rather scarce. RCI offerings seem rather scarce. It has been this way for a while longer than DJT has been POTUS.

I doubt the Tariffs are to blame. Even capacitors and other jelly bean parts have been scarce for longer than Donald Trump has been President.

For instance this is EU on CHinese made EV's

"
Tariffs on Electric Vehicles:
  • The EU has increased tariffs on Chinese-built EVs, including specific rates for brands like BYD and SAIC.

  • These tariffs, ranging from 17% to 35.3%, are on top of the standard car import duty. Some as high as 45%.

  • The EU's actions are in response to investigations into Chinese government subsidies and their impact on the EV market.
Tariffs on Aerial Work Platforms:
  • The EU announced anti-subsidy duties ranging from 20.6% to 66.7% on Chinese-imported aerial work platforms.
  • Investigations revealed that Chinese manufacturers, benefiting from government support, were selling these products at prices significantly lower than the EU average. "

I tried easily looking up EU tarrifs on consumer electronics from China but it was slow going. The EU has traditionaly had far higher tariffs on almost everything imported on every country that does business with them that is not in the EU. Far higher than even the new US Tariffs and for many decades now.

Now had we really gone to what was it 134% tarrif on China then sure I would agree but no one with more than 2 working brain cells thought that was actualy going to happen. That was always to get peoples attention and create a sense of urgency! It worked as intended. I disagree with the POTUS on a good many things but I like how he excutes his plans. He is normaly very reasonable once people come to the table and actual attempt to work with him but if you try to call his bluff he is not afraid to follow through or even double down.

Canada has scandelious tariffs but the average person is largely ignorant by choice and wants to remain that way! So it is only shocking when the media covers it and pushes fake outrage and ignorance! Every country does it much the same way.

Almost every model of Galaxy Radio made the last 20 years is discountinued or out of stock. Just about every model RCI has made for the last 20 years is discountinued or out of stock. The few that remain are stupidly expensive given the low quality of manufacturing and componets used and the cheap labor being used. I dare say most of the models most available are ones made by the parent company of the Anytone Brand we all know. I can not think of their name now. President, Uniden, Anytone, Radioditty, Stryker etc.....all made by the same company. Did Mr. Ping die or something?

It's simple really. And now I've thought about it, I've realized it has nothing to do with Trump or tariffs.

Anytone makes an affordable radio that is bang on frequency out of the box, has plenty of power, sounds good even on the stock mic, covers 10, 11, 12 & sometimes even 15 meters, and has very good noise filtering and all kinds of other cool features including SWR & power protection.

RCI makes a more expensive radio, with components of questionable provenance, terrible drift on SSB, questionable quality control, limited features, and styling that screams 1985 not 2025. They are so bad in fact, that most people have the shop bring them up to spec with a "tune and peak", because the radios are pretty much unuseable out of the box.

On top of that you can get the Anytone's from Amazon and have it delivered within a couple of days!

I think it's pretty obvious why RCI is failing. You either keep up with the competition, or you cease to exist. That's how capitalism works.

Anytone has been putting the squeeze on RCI / Galaxy for several years now and especially now that they offer "Noise reduction" which is basically a DSP filter for the receive. Still plenty of radios available, American retailers have front loaded their orders when tariff rumors started, and now they have 90 more days to continue. During COVID, there were shortages because everything was shut down. With import tariffs, domestic production will ramp up to meet the need. Apple is now hiring again in it's Chinese factories as electronics have been excluded from the tariffs.

So the sky is not falling.
I wonder what the state flag of Alberta is going to look like? Probably will have a red Maple leaf on it somewhere, I am sure.
