Software audio processing?

Anyone have any experiance with real time software audio processing on a PC. Seems that if it worked as good as advertised everyone would be doing it.

I'd like to try it using some kinda free or very cheap software and the PC soundcard. Ever use anything like that?
 

You have more options than you can shake a stick at! Look into VST plugins and programs that host them. There are quite a few website devoted to free VST plugins.
 
Over the years I've talked to more than a few people that ran their audio through a PC or Mac to do the processing before running it into the radio. It can work really well when done properly.
