Hello,
I noticed that some of my TRC-465 radios have the same receive audio quality. Stations all sound more treble/higher tone than compared to my Cobra 146 GTL and the Uniden 122. The Uniden 122 sounds great and isnt as high tone on the receive and stations have more lower end audio.
The stations that were coming in sounded a bit crackly, their audio was ok on the Cobra 146 GTL and the Uniden 122. Is this a case like the issue that the President Jackson radios had? That fix made a big difference for it. I just wonder on what area of the board on the TRC-465 to look for that deals in the audio on the receiving station.

Thanks for any help on this.

Ooops, edited the thread as I mistakenly put TRC-485 where I meant to write TRC-465.

Aha.. Did find a thread on what may be related to what I am experiencing... Of course all on this great site. :)

Uniden PC-122 audio

But please, if you have some ideas or at least what to look for, id still like to hear it and be led to the right direction.

Never underestimate the mischief an electrolytic cap can cause after 40 or even 30 years. The AGC fix for the Jackson involved one or more of those, IIRC.

I thought I recapped at least one of the TRC-465 radios, but after looking inside, turns out I did not recap it... Oops! And the other radio I did recap sounds ok. The ones that were giving me trouble still had originals in them. I also probably just listened to a bad sounding station assuming the receive was bad. :P

For sure the 1st TRC-465, the clarifier warbles its audio as you adjust it, whereas the 2nd one is just fine and slides up and down ok. Probably a dirty potentiometer.

All is well..
