I have a very clean one that sounds great with the non-Amplified Astatic D-104.I would love to have the 40 channel model but I have been unable to locate one that cost less than an arm & a leg but it took a long time to find a good ROBYN 240D as well but when I found one it looked Brand New & was CHEAP as well.It's worth the wait if it's worth having.

the metal bar on the dirty one?

The "metal bar" on the "dirty one" maybe to prevent chassis sag under the weight of the transformer??
The chassis on the "clean one" where the tubes and tuning coils are mounted is different. It looks like it runs all the way to the front panel under the speaker without the "cut out" that the "dirty one" has.

The metal bar? I would guess that the transformer was causing the chassis to vibrate and this was the quick fix?

the capacitors are different, I dont know what the blue things are?

Found a resistor that has been clipped on both radios

Did you get these going? Maybe the clipped resistor was some kind of power mod, looks like it might have gone to the final transmit tube?
