This sonar FS 2340 is cosmetically nice with only a couple of very small (barley noticable) scratches to the face, and one on the RF gain faux Chrome insert.
A previous owner removed the audio limiter board as opposed to bypassing it.
Imo the results are the same as bypassing it with the unfortunate possibility of undoing the bypass as the board is no longer in the rig, and I don't have it or an extra one to offer. The only thing that might not be working correctly is the ANL. The ANL on my everyday FS 2340 user actually sounds the same as the one that's being offered (pictured.)
The ANL on my second and every day user sonar FS 2340 sounds exactly as this one being offered when the anl is switched on.
I don't know if this is the way the ANL on these radios are supposed to work because I've never heard one that betters the receive. I don't like the receive when the ANL is activated on either of the two FS 2340's i own, and never use them. I've owned four of these rigs at one time, and all had the nuvista replaced by a tiny board and this one's no exception.
There is an approximately one and a half inch scuff on the top right side cover and shows what's u!der the paint. The few very small scratches on the total cover itself. Once again are barely noticeable.
The radio was refurbished by Mike of MRR in 2016, and have approximately 10 hours use since the restoration. I might have the receipt for the work Mike did and if I find it I will post a picture of it or send to the new owner if the rig sells. I will add other photos of the inside and rear of the radio if asked to, but I assure you it is nice as the outside. I'm a stickler and would rate the radio a 7 out of 10, but it's more likely an eight and a half in a non stickler world.
The radio is set for 2 Watts dead key and shows 16 Watts pep (on both my autek wm 1's) with the amplified d104 that is included in the sale. The d104's 9 volt battery receptical was broken, and since I didn't have one handy the + and - mic wires were soldered directly to the 9 volt battery. I've since purchased a package of 9 volt receptacles and will add a couple of them Inside with the radio, and
mic (if the rig sells.) I'd add the receptacle myself, but in all honesty my soldering skills are probably the worst on the planet, and you'd be better off doing it yourself. The microphone is cosmetically nice with a few small light scratches, no rubs, lost Chrome, or rust. I've always gotten clean, loud clear audio reports with this rig, and it receives very nicely. Strong adjacent Channel rejection. On off volume, squelch, RF gain, and the Delta tune knobs all work as they should. Any capacitors or diodes that were out of spec were replaced. The radio was aligned, and three or four tubes that were soft were replaced.
I will not be at my qth (where the rig is) but will add several more photos in about 4 days (if it doesn't sell by time I get to my home. I might be premature in offering the radio without being able to post as many pictures as possible. But I thought I'd get the ball rolling. the price is $375 shipped and insured. This is not an untested, hear static on the speaker, might need alignment, or some attention, plugged it in, and all the tubes light, radio. it's only been used as a backup since its restoration and is fully functional. Sounds excellent and receives wonderfully. Plate modulated twin Push Pull 6bq5's, and chances are if you've been looking for one of these you know exactly what it is. I assure you you will not be disappointed. This is not some garage, flea market find POS. It's a Wonderful radio, and the $375 is my don't really want to sell it price. I won't go at any lower, and I am actually hoping no one buys it. That might sound strange, but it's actually true. I don't need the money, but I'd like to fund another project without having to go into my pocket. I've owned this radio for many years and it's never been abused. Everything I own is treated with respect for the fact they just don't make them like they used to. Hand-wired point to point in the good old USA. Happy holidays and 73's PS. The radio pictured is the one offered. The only difference between the picture and what you'll be getting is the microphone. I don't have an extra sonar stock mic. So the radios coming with the Amplified astatic d104 that's mentioned above. I've added a few pictures of my station to show that equipment looks are important, and usually (not always) prove an items been taken care of. I switch up in order to give everything a chance. No junk here. If something fails I get it repaired by the same person whom I believe to be highly qualified, and has an excellent reputation. The only thing your getting for the $375 is the one sonar FS 2340 in the two large photos below. Paypal will be the only form of payment. Ok. With the above description these pictures, and what I would consider a most important things to add when selling a used vintage piece of equipment. That's the receipt. It took me quite a while to dig up but I know how important it is as part of the description. I'm sorry for the photos. They weren't taken by me, but we're taking the best that they could be by the person who took them for me.$375 shipped and insured. PayPal only. FS 2340 and Amplified d104 microphone. Read the receipt carefully. It was done by Mike of MRR.
It's truly a wonderful looking and working radio. You will not be disappointed if you decide to purchase this radio. God bless. Good luck and 73 s

I noticed from the photos I added of the mic that the outer ring that holds the grill in place is in crappy condition. You can see as I did it's Chrome has been worn off in many places and looks like shit. I will remove it and replace it with one that looks wonderful. I have many d104 heads and will choose the nicest one. I will remove the old one and replace it with one that's in excellent condition.

SALE PENDING, SALE PENDING. SALE PENDING.

But until the transaction is made leave a message if you're interested.
The gentleman interested seems serious, but until I post a sold message assume it's still available.
The gentleman that's interested definitely has first shot. And will only offer it to someone else if I know 100% the deal won't happen. If the deal falls through I'll notify the next person who show's interest. 73's

I didn't realize how dusty the microphone cord was until I watched the video. That cord will be cleaned up nicely before the radio is packed and sent out to its new owner. I will add another video of the radio receiving by tomorrow evening. PS. If my SWR isn't acting up I will also Ddive my Palomar 350Z with the rig, and get some audio and radio signal reports.

Granted this sonar FS 2340 was refurbished to the highest quality as the receipt shows. I don't think sonar built their own speakers, but most likely Outsource. They obviously had high standards as this speaker along with the radio is 44 years old, and it still receives beautifully. Take a listen. Channel 21

Shady tree mechanic who purchased the rig made my first sale (here) an excellent one. He's a man of his word and no tire kicker. I hope that the next item I list will sell to someone as honest as him, and as easy to work with. Thanks.

I just got the radio and un packed it and all is well. The unit is in great shape as advertised and I plan on enjoying it for many years to come. I did a quick function check by hooking it up to the antenna on the garage and drove around in my mobile unit while my son operated the Sonar. The signal from it is excellent and even had a few locals break in to say how well it sounded. At 1 and 1/2 watt dead key they had no problem getting S6 from over 20 miles away. I just want to say that this transaction with Sonar went very well and that he is straight up a man of his word. His excellent descriptions and explanations made sure that I knew what I was getting. His communication along the way was top notch as he kept me posted on the status of the packing and shipping. I am very satisfied on the great transaction and would not hesitate to buy from him in the future.
Here is a picture of it next to my grandfather's Hammerlund HQ180 in my new shack. I am in the process of putting up a new antenna for the Sonar.
