The CW filter will be WAY too narrow for AM. I'm with Doc on the 1 Khz tuning, You can really "taylor" the sound of your receive.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Hey Slim,

It has been a while since I played with my 440, but you can manually change the filter from the front panel in every mode but FM. I got the matched set of filters and it quiets down the rx a lot. You can compare what each one does by turning the knob. I also got the narrowest CW filter they had and man that thing works awesome. If there are 3-4 CW signal on top of each other, just tune one in with the SSB filter then switch on the CW filter and bam, noise goes away and all you hear is that one signal. Mind you, you have to be dead on or he will go away too.

If you don’t care for CW and have $$$ to spend. You can put a narrower SSB filter in the CW slot, when you want that little bit extra filtering just select it from the front.

I checked the site but didn’t see the tuner upgrade Doc mentioned. I have it installed also. I forgot how the tuning used to be. With the upgrade when you tune the knob slow it changes the frequency slower than stock. When you turn it fast it tunes the frequency much faster than stock. This way it doesn’t take you all day to go15 channels or so.

I thought it helped a lot. Especially when you are on LSB and some one is on USB. It changes the quality of audio a little, but you can easily select a wider filter from the front panel.
