Stock cobra mic wiring

My stock 148 has a five pin connector with wires as...... Shield-Ground, White-Audio, Black-Common, Blue-Receive, and Red-Transmit. The radio won't receive unless the mic is plugged in. Hope that helps.

Hey there all. Trust everyone is healthy and blessed. Know this is an oldish post but I have been trying to figure this out as well. I know what wires are what. I have a 4 wire mic cord and a 5 pin female plug at the end. Shield is connected to pin 2 but i kept getting this sqeuling sound in my Mic on AM. SSB the needle just stays in da corner. (Cobra 148 GTL - PC-422 - Taiwan-I think 1983 according the serial no). Same mic work great on the SBE Land Command. No radio shops around here where I can buy a 5 wire Mic cord. Tried everything from connecting pin 2 to pin 4, etc. Today i decided to use the Mic lead of the Cobra 148 D (KEPC- 332-E6 - 2005). Same result. Then something tolde me to open the radio and I soldered a short wire from Pin 2 to the nearest metal "can or whatever u call it". To my surprise it worked. No sqeauling on AM and SSB.
Forgot to add this... The other 4 wire cord i was using was one laying in my scrap box. Wires still looked good at the solder ends but who knows what is happening along the entire length of the lead. That's just my thoughts.

Off the topic. Why does my external power meter needle move to the back on AM. Ok, so on dead key of 3 Watts, as soon as I modulate, power meter needle moves back about 0.5 to 1 Watt (On a dummy Load). Meter needle on radio moves forward about 2 - 3 Watts.

Tnx, Spanish
