Such hackery.... I might get sick!

Thought maybe you found some of my work from the '80s.

I've seen worse. Done worse, but that stuff should all be in landfills by now.

Hahhaha... I don't think so anyway but sorry if it is! I should not condemn so quickly but I am kinda OCD about things looking and being "tidy". Even if I or anybody else can't see it. It's not like this was a quick fix on the fly to get by......

Oh this is just lovely, reminds me of older style "mirror finish" stereos from the late 70's that has the "Flat mirror" panel with the knobs but that is what it was, until you pushed the power button and the panels' backlighting came on revealing the purpose of all those knobs and controls - the One Way Mirror effect.

This is one guy that had waaaay too much time on their hands.

Kinda cool though...

But a 3-digit channel display - and it looks like they put in some type of Viagra board and the channel selector has some special work too.

I give the kid credit, it's a lot of effort, but the "blue" panel makes it look like - well - a kids toy. prolly would have been nicer to see "smoked tint" mirror glass - then at least the girlfriend can use the mirror face to fix her makeup - like a vanity mirror (ok, bad pun...)

Well, it's not the "weakest station" mod, or "The Mod".

Had a Yahoo group back in the day. Used EPROMS.

And a LOT of wires.

This one has a PIC microcontroller alongside the channel selector. It's a clever setup to control three digits with only a 20-pin microcontroller.

Aside from making that meter hard to read, honestly it really isn't that bad. I have seen a lot worse!

hi guys,

I know this radio.
It was built specifically for a contest we were having in the mod group way back in the mid 2000's.

the contest was specifically to change the faceplate as much as possible and make it as custom as possible.
i will see if i can find my entry and post the pic.

I can tell you that the guy who did the work on the radio was very good, and made really nice modded radios.

Im not a fan of the black tape either, but it was done in case someone wanted to put the old faceplace back on someday.

I am the same way. That front panel looks like the tech had just finished eating Chili con Carne with his bare hands.

In a box in my basement I have the docs for the WS mod.... its a thicc manual... lmao. that's the most amount of work for the smallest gain I've ever seen in a radio mod, even with someone competent its hours of work!
