Taking out the Trash

So Cal
I'm becoming more and more disenchanted with the amount of trash on our repeater. There are at least 3 or possibly 4 real turds that continue to cause malicious interference at all hours of the day and night. I'm almost at the point where I just want to shut the radio(s) off and find some other useful hobby to eat away at my free time.

Some people in our group continue to say, "ignore the perps and they'll just go away" ... well I have to call Bullshit on that - they aren't going away and are actually getting worse as far as I can see.

I have offered gas money to anybody in the area where the turds typically transmit from to help locate and identify them.

I recently asked DTO if some of the funds in the repeater fund kitty could also be utilized for reimbursing any active 'T' Hunters for their gas. Daryl said he had no problem with using funds for this purpose.

So what say ye all?

Anybody out here (preferably some of you guys with economical vehicles) interested in helping us to rid the freq of the trash that keeps piling up?

The first step would be accurately identifying exactly who these turds really are.
The second step would be to confirm their residence address(es).

The final steps will be up to Daryl and Henry to deal with ...

It's pointless to go through the trouble in my opinion Mark. As a former repeater owner I found out the hard way that evin if you track these people down and report them to the FCC the FCC does little to solve the problem. Case and point Danny Rice KJ6FYX jammed played porn audio, reset people out of my repeater and basically single handedly disrupted the flow on 235. I as well as Jeri had mulitble conversations or emails with Laura Smith regurding Danny, NOTHING WAS EVER DONE BY THE FCC, except Danny was sent a letter to stop transmitting on my repeater.

The letters did nothing more than encourage Danny to jam and cause more problems on 235. And this is the mentality of most of these knuckle heads. They get off on causing problems and feed on negativity. And there is no enforcement by the FCC so they know there are no conciquences to there actions.

I'm down with it on any free time I've got between work & family commitments. Tired of those knuckleheads too. Fridays are usually best for my schedule while family is in school. No need to reimburse gas for me, but I have no experience t-hunting but would like to learn.

I'm in the same boat as HQD. I've got a tape measure yagi, never really used it, would love to learn.

And I'm totally sick and tired of these knuckleheads. Something needs to happen.

I dont think you are going to have to worry about it....

.... yesterday I heard one of the repeater owners stating that
there was very little jamming of late....

... of course, he forgot to mention there was very little traffic of late!!
Gee... wonder why???

and not to :bdh:

I'm looking at getting one of these contraptions:

DF2020T Radio Direction Finder kit requires minimum assembly for 10~15 Minutes

The Stealth DDF2020T/GPS is an economical but very sophisticated Doppler Direction Finder with GPS and can connect a PC or Laptop, to position and draw plots on GoogleEarthTM display window accompanied with “Navi 2020” plotting program.

You need to supply your own 1/4 wave antennas, but that's nothing to fret about. Check it out here: Radio DF DDF2020T - GLOBAL TSCM GROUP, INC.

It's a bit more expensive than the Ramsey DDF-1 I originally looked at, but I think the DDF2020T offers much more bang for the buck ;)

that is a nice Doppler unit. but they can be a little complicate when mobile by your self. and the google map thing is nice. but how can u drive and use all these fetchers

that's not saying much. I just use a HT and a mag mount antenna. when I am close I use a hand held beam. I have used something similar in the past. but there is a lot of equipment u don't want to leave in your vehicle. OLD SCHOOL CB FOX HUNTING TRICKS. work the best for me. NO extra cost.

Oh, I'm an old T-hunter, going back to the late '60s through the mid '70s or so. A friend and I were banned from one of the local T-hunting groups because we always won the trophy money at almost every event ;)

Gasoline was a whole lot cheaper though ... somewhere around 32 cents a gallon or so

Can't be that difficult ... if Buzz can do it

:p

AHHHHH! Thanks for the compliment KF6IRK! In the past when I was active I used to run just a 4 element quad on 2 meters and a Kenwood TR751A mobile in my car. Had the hole punched in the roof and all that. Then I changed cars and was inactive for a bit. When I came back I was using the Ramsey DDF-1 Doppler that was sold to me "completed." It worked GREAT however on our regular Saturday night T-hunts where the transmitter is usually 5 watts over in a canyon 20 miles away it was difficult to pick up the signal once I left the hilltop start point.

I then bought the WB2HOL tape yagi kit and had help at a picnic putting it together. Just a few clamps...some sanding...and soldering and it was done. I paired this with the Doppler and it worked just "OK" in most cases. The tape yagi by the way is only 3 elements so receive gain wasn't all that HOT. It's best used when you're closer in and sniffing on foot as a 5 Mhz offset attenuator is attached to the boom. I was using it with a Radio Shack scanner without an S-meter so that made things harder! I had to get my bearings based on the "noise level."

I highly recommend that you scope out a local on foot t-hunt training session FIRST so you can get an idea of what tracking signals is all about. The next one will be Saturday, May 17th in Placentia as part of a local radio clubs yearly "Antennas in the Park" picnic event.

I will post more info in my next message.

Every spring, hams in Orange County organize an outdoor day in Placentia at Tri-City Park where they operate radios, find hidden transmitters and eat lots of good food. The annual "Antennas in the Park" (AITP) event is organized by the Fullerton Radio Club in celebration of the sixteenth annual CQ Worldwide Foxhunting Weekend. All ages are welcome, so bring the family. AITP transmitter hunts will be simple, informal and intended primarily for beginners. There will be no charge for participation in the hunts, which will begin around 11 AM and continue until 2 PM. Be sure to bring your two-meter handi-talkie and know how to program it to any frequency in the two-meter band.

If you don't have the antenna/attenuator system for on-foot foxhunting on two meters with your ham radio handi-talkie or scanner, a limited amount of equipment will be available for loan. Better yet, you can easily make your own during this session. Beginning at 10 AM, Marvin Johnston KE6HTS will conduct a clinic for building his kits for measuring-tape yagis and for 90 dB offset-type attenuators. An assembled/tested attenuator in a special housing that goes inside the boom of the yagi is also available. If you want one or more kits, please register in advance by sending e-mail to marvin@west.net, so he will have the kits reserved in your name waiting for you.

The main entrance to Tri-City Park is at the corner of North Kraemer Boulevard and East Golden Avenue in Placentia. From the 57 freeway, take the Imperial Highway exit, go east to Kraemer Boulevard, turn right (south), continue to Golden Avenue and turn right into the park. This event will be in the northeast corner (to the right as you enter the park). Look for the FRC banner. A map to help you find the park is at HOMING IN -- Radio Direction Finding (Radio Foxhunting, Transmitter Hunting, ARDF) for Amateur Radio and Public Service. Entry and parking are free, but empty spaces near the event site may be difficult to find if the park is crowded, so consider carpooling. A few canopies and tables will be set up, but for eating and sitting around, please bring your own lawn chair. Call K0OV on K6QEH/R, 146.97(-) PL 136.5 for two-meter talk-in. If you have questions, send e-mail to k0ov@homingin.com before May 14.

73, K0OV
