I have this amp. It works, however, two or three key ups and smoke ascends from the area of the toroid/resistor combo in the closeup photo. Any ideas? I'm not an electronics tech so, more than an easy cold solder joint touchup it ...1000020305.jpg1000020306.jpg
If I can sort this out I will be offering this for sale. If there is a knowledgeable person who'll take it as is, offer me a reasonable price for it.

Honestly, I've no idea. Perhaps you've dealt with things like this. If it were yours what would you take for it.
I know it works, but it's over heating in that spot. I know that before he died the owner used it often. He took it out of line because of that issue. He meant to repair it, but a rapidly developing cancer got him before he did. It is because I told him I'd help sell off his stuff in his wife's behalf that I have it.

That's the output toroid combiner, if it's cooking I would bet one of your pill pairs is shot. The combiner combines the output from the 2 dual pill amp sections. If one stops outputting, an imbalance will cause much heating of that part. I wouldn't expect more than $100 for it in that state, that's assuming at least 2 of the toshiba pills are still good. May be worth fixing, but the pills are expensive and need to be all matched. I would either buy it for parts, the surviving pills can be valuable, or replace all the pills with a matched set, which will be expensive. Someone more knowledgeable may make a better offer.

If you want it, you can have it at that price. I'm just trying to sell it.
