hey, I have a cute little Radio Shack TRC-495 base to get working.
so far there is 25 VDC on the 13.7 VDC line. hopefully just the regulator
pass transistor, and nothing else is blown up.

I have been trying all over to find the schematic to this radio.
I found that it is almost the same as a Cherokee CBS-500.
but could not find that schematic either.

I was checking out the other Cherokee radio schematics to see if they
are similar. I went to this CBS-1000 FACT SHEET.
funny. snicker at it. funny that this company posted this.
does it remind you of anyone you know? :) :) :)

people untrained in electronics tampering with the radios."

Yes! it's alive! found that a resistor and transistor driving
the power supply main pass transistor to be burned out.
pass transistor is still good. it looks like this supply circuit
is and about the same as in the Cherokee CBS-1000.

I powered the radio with an external 13.8 VDC supply,
and the radio works. 3.8 watts RF carrier, good modulation.
can receive a 1 microvolt signal. scan function works.

just one wire to the meter is broken, so meter not working.
and only one meter lamp lights up. they were changed before
I can tell. some extra wires and splices are inside.
