Well finally today I finally got to my long awaited project and was pleasantly surprised to end up with almost a flat-line SWR by shortening the antenna by only 5/8 inch. Ya just don't often get perfect so I had to say good enough for this old country boy. WOO HOO !Project Beginning 1.jpg

Looks great, have you made any contacts yet?
LOL That is the funny part, after I finished the job and tested with my 3 SWR meters to be sure, DX dried up. And this morning first thing I tried that solar index site and they said conditions would be good today but I haven't heard Squat so far ! LOL I guess I have to mend my ways so the DX Gods shine on me. It's not like I'm lacking for something to do, as long as I'm ready for Fall. Next on the agenda is my rocker panel job that had to wait until I got the antenna Nag out of my system ! LOL And then of coarse I'm in the middle of making a Winch mount for my ATV also because Fall hunting system isn't far off. No rest for the Wicked !

Cool! Is this an old Starduster, or the new Sirio variant?
Sirio variant. And it's been up 4-5 years so checked it over and every thing seems in good shape with the Weep hole still open and no problem loosening the Allen set screw to make the adjustment. A simple antenna but gets me out of this stinking valley.

Back in the 70's, the Stardusters were everywhere. Hope this Sirio continues to serve you well!

At one time I had the Star Duster and a Super Penetrator up at the same time trying to do a performance comparison between the 2 antennas but that was before the upswing in this DX cycle so it was hard to compare. I finally got tired of the game and settled on the Star Duster because the old pros told me that the Star Duster was the one who would help me get out of this valley because of the way it radiated the signal. The Super Penetrator sets in the garage in case I move out of here. And thanks for the well wishes !

How tall is it? Did you use fence top rail? I been thinking about setting up a base station.
No that is 25' of 1" Black Iron pipe painted with Aluminum paint because any higher and I would have felt like I needed guy ropes and it becomes unsightly in my opinion. I made my own heavy duty pivot for the bottom so I didn't have to bother anyone for help because they always seem to be in a hurry when helping and I'm too fussy for that ! LOL

That looks good, the band is not in the best shape for now but as summertime fades the band will pick back up.
You are going to have fun with that little set-up I think.

Thanks and yes I almost have flat line SWR now and that's what I was shooting for and why I did the adjustment before the Fall upswing in DX. In this stinking valley I need all the help I can get. My SWR was OK before but the high channels were slightly higher than the low channels and I wanted vise versa Because I don't mess with the lower channels very much. When I hit Oregon the other day on 37 or 38 lsb I was happy because it was the first time. That solar site has said 10-12 meter good the last few days but it hasn't worked out for me. But like they say in here That's Radioing ! LOL
