so,, I have an older model that requires the wire mod to let the warc bands work. It has been done. There is a switch on the back. One other guy owned it, and the previous owner was a freebander. But nothing I can do will get this rig on 11 meters. Is the warc mod the same as 11 meter mod? What am I missing here?

The WARC mod is for the ham bands that got legalized after that radio was sold, 10 MHz and 18 MHz, pretty sure.

11 meters calls for changing a couple or more wires. Haven't done one in 20-plus years, but the info should be on file at the shop somewhere. Maybe under a 20-year deep pile of other stuff. I'll see if I can track it down.

Ok, I know more on what's going on. I looked at a mars mod on here for my radio, and it has been done. But when I flip the switch, all the warc bands go out, as in the freq counter goes blank. It also go's blank on 10meter switch, but other than 18,24,1.8, this doesn't happen anywhere else. Odd uh? I'm wondering if someone has changed something else? (crystal):cry: Other than this, my radio works flawless... Oh yeah, it goes blank on 10 meters when you hit the plus 5 khz button

5 year bump. I realize this is an older thread...but...

I did a bit of reverse engineering of the PLL and Display/Logic Unit as used in both the TS-530S and TS-830 then set about devising a way to add another band to the radio's Aux band spot. This turned into an 8 page and counting thread on another forum. Search for the TS-530/830 Mod Thread and you should find the site.

As with any modification, it's your butt if you are caught using the rig where it shouldn't be. I've included details for adding a jumper to the Coil Pack Unit for those who cannot resist the temptation to leave the Heater Switch in the Off position when on the Aux band. But the extra coverage does have its uses...such as wider upper HF range for use with a transverter.

Where it stands now:

27-27.5 is covered natively. I'm currently experimenting with ways to enable the "+0.5" switch as Kenwood did for 28 and 29MHz. Unfortunately, I had to tear my lab down....move an entire household...rebuild and re-equip before I can finish the project. The thread I mentioned details my efforts to date on the Counter Unit. It's desirable to implement the switching with a minimum of added parts - up next is a pair of N channel FETs to control the VCO Select and Counter Preload lines when the front panel switch is pressed. I may end up having to do a custom array for this but I hope not.
