So SWR high especially on ch 40, says to me that I need to shorten antenna. Do I 1) shorten the center feed side or the ground side ? 2) do i shorten both at the same time ? Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Thanks everyone.
I will provide all the detail the next time i set it up. I admit that the initial assessment was done with antenna strung across my bedroom (dont laugh too loud,, RF exposure?). I plan on putting it in the attic. My physical limitations mean I will have to arrange a PVC pipe arrangement to extend the wires from the attic entrance. I am thinking an inverted V deployment. The PVC will also allow me to pull the arms in for adjustment or change to a horizontal deployment. More to come.

MVet: Not sure if your just planning on CB band "or" planning more (Amatuer radio) later down the road?
Either way, depending on your antenna "budget" option's plus depending on size/dimensions etc. of attic space. you may have other options.
Welcome, many here to help.

Good point ,, I think this first dipole will be CB only and I do have attic room. Thanks for keeping my eyes on the potential of future radio/antenna growth.

A few Nicely done Indoor antennas ....

WOW,, those are nicer attic installs than I did. I put my dipole in the attic with 1x1 wood poles (left over from last fence repairs) so that I can move the tips. Without any changes to the wire lengths SWR is way down 1.2 to 1.5 range. I guess getting the antenna away from wires and metal was a good thing.
Dont spoil my fun by telling me how hosed I will be when the snow piles on my roof. I want to be proud of my install and SWR for the time being. Maybe a strong Amp can melt the snow,, I can dream.

I put my 2 meter quarter wave vertical in the attic. Works great except on snow days. It isn't a often used antenna anyway so I'm good.
