Uniden Bearcat 980 or GALAXY DX 979

I have a 979 and i have the freq. counter which just plugs in the back of the radio. When i turn it on its off freq. slightly but once it warms up like Grogan said its good to go. I do live in Ca. so mild weather compared to some. When my 2980 needed some work I brought it into the house, i had never checked the SSB output and it was low I adjusted it up some myself, it wasn't even to 12 watts. After that I made a lot of contacts with great reports. I wouldn't be scared to buy another, that being said i would lean towards the Optima.

Well I WAS leaning towards the Bearcat, looks like I might get the Galaxy. It seems like they're a little hard to find, and Bells's won't have them until the end of July. Any other trustworthy radio shops out there that do mods and mail-order? Not sure I trust eBay.

depending on where you purchase it, a big meter isn't impossible with the uniden . my 2950 is wired for an external signal meter through the PA plug.

How did you do that Space Cowboy?
