Found this in my parts selection. I don't know if it's a specific radio part or an aftermarket item. Almost looks like some sort of channel board, but I'm just guessing. I have no information or paperwork I can find.

Kind of looks like a signal generator for a sideband radio. If you triple the crystal frequencies you'll get about a 3kc offset between them in the 33 MHz range. No idea what radio it would be out of, though.

By looking at the CBC International crystal mixing chart, various 12 Mhz crystals will produce higher channels and above frequencies in a SBE Console II plus a few others. In that case, a 12.320 Mhz crystal will produce 27.585 Mhz on Channel 1.

I also seem to recall 12 Mhz crystals being used some old 2 meter radios. Repeater offset?

Carrier oscillator/clarifier from SSB Hitachi (maybe Sears), the connectors look very Hitachi to me. I have probably seen it before, but can't recall.

More clues…. Thinking back, many J C Penny radios used those connectors, and the 681-6241 (981-8360) model employed those same two 12 Mhz crystal pairs.

You usually don’t see two different crystal brands in the same circuit. By looking at the solder joints, that probably was an attempt at a repair job.

You usually don’t see two different crystal brands in the same circuit. By looking at the solder joints, that probably was an attempt at a repair job.

Thanks. I have 2 6241'a, they are both working so I don't think it came out of those if it is a 6241 module. I will open one up and have a look.

I was late to chime in, but yep.. Outta an old Sears Roadtalker SSB radio. (The first Sears SSB radio, not the slant face.) There is a resistor in there to clip out (much much easier than to desolder the whole board just to remove a leg of the resistor. I did do a guide here on doing the clarifier unlock along with pictures to help others who wish to do the same.

Hitachi only manufactured a few AM only CB radios, it’s sad they decided to abruptly quit their CB Manufacturing line. It’s like Hitachi being the song writer with both Sears and J C Penny singing all the songs plus adding their own spin.

I have been meaning to recap the slant face AM only Sears Roadtalker and put in a board to lower the deadkey. I do like the receive audio and transmit of that radio.

They also made their own with their name on them, as well as early 70's Realistic. They were high quality.
